Whidbey Island Dance Theatre (WIDT)
Whidbey Island Dance Theatre Opens Auditions for Community in The Nutcracker's 33rd Year!
Whidbey Island Dance Theatre (WIDT) prepares once again to spread holiday cheer by producing its renowned classical ballet, The Nutcracker—its 33rd year. On Sept. 7, 2025 WIDT opens its doors for the community (that’s you) to audition for a role in this traditional event so you can share the joy of the season. It’s a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in a project that has been a seasonal staple of Whidbey Island; to get on stage and have fun telling a magical story to our local kids of all ages.
No experience is necessary. WIDT will teach you all the moves, and have a lot of fun throughout the rehearsal and performance process. You'll get to wear amazing costumes, make new friends, and learn something new, all while delivering a classical story to your community. Most any age is welcome, as there are roles for little ones through retirees.
Please read the open call below for details.
Calling all Whidbey performers-at-heart (age 6-96)!
WIDT welcomes everyone from aspiring little ones to seasoned retirees to join the magic. No prior experience necessary! Auditions for a variety of roles – from playful elves and woodland creatures to brave soldiers and revered family members – will be held on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025 at Island Dance & Gymnastics (714 Camano Ave., Langley).
Rehearsal start the first weekend of October through the performances ending Dec. 21, 2025. Rehearsals are Saturdays and/or Sundays in the afternoon (depending on roles). It’s a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. And the feeling of accomplishment knowing you imparted holiday joy and respite from daily trials to the youth and families of our beautiful community is deeply rewarding.
Want to participate but too shy to be on stage? WIDT also needs the magic of volunteers! Lend a hand with ushering, costumes, backstage, fundraising, or technical duties. Every bit of help ensures young dancers at WIDT shine throughout the season.

See you on September 7th!
